Client + Project Details

Pete for St. Pete

Pete approached Evolve & Co, looking to create a brand for his mayoral campaign in St. Petersburg, Florida. I worked with him from conceptualization to finished work.

Every piece of this branding + launch project was carefully crafted to cohesively encompass the essence of Pete’s mayoral campaign.

Agency

Evolve & Co.

Roles

Creative Director, Lead Graphic Designer, Website Designer, Video Editor, & Photographer

Primary Objective

Create a brand that encapsulates Pete’s mayoral campaign and leads to votes in the 2021 St. Petersburg, Florida Mayoral Race.

Results

Pete received 6% of the vote as a first-time candidate in the 2021 St. Petersburg Mayoral Race.

Branding

The colors, navy, red, and white, were chosen to represent the United States of America. The brand fonts, Fira Sans and Open Sans, modern sans serif typefaces, were chosen to compliment each other, stand out, and be easily legible and accessible to all.

Reminiscent of the well-known St. Petersburg pelican, the custom illustrated pelican in this branding project stands for more than just local representation. In consumer psychology, emblems facing to the right are associated with progress and future thinking. I utilized a right-facing pelican to represent Pete’s forward thinking mindset.

Website Design

When creating his website, the St. Petersburg voter experience was at the forefront of my design plan. What will they want to know about Pete? How can I tell his story virtually while maintaining Pete’s authenticity? What is the best way to organize and display policies?

Right when users land on the site, they’re greeted by Pete. The user is then presented with opportunities to learn more about Pete, view videos on his core policies or read about them, see him in the news, sign up to volunteer or donate.

From the banner at the top, guiding viewers to register to vote, to the footer that includes a personal message from Pete, this site experience is truly voter-centric. I wanted the user to not only feel like they know about Pete’s policies, but leave knowing Pete’s story.
